Panasonic: 3D to Dominate NAB

The professional-grade 3D camcorder they unveiled at CES in January — but didn’t let anyone play with — now has both a price and a model number.

One indication of how quickly 3D for home viewing will be catching on is the decision by Panasonic to devote roughly half of their floor space in their sprawling booth at the upcoming National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas to 3D technology.

The professional-grade 3D camcorder they unveiled at CES in January — but didn’t let anyone play with — now has both a price ($21,000) and a model number — the AG-3DA1, and will be a big part of their booth, along with 3D display technology.

At this price, the camera is more of an industrial model, not in contention for such applications as major league sports or prime time network programs, where cameras costing upwards of $100,000 rule.
