YouTube and Disney are partnering to provide original Disney content on YouTube, according to recent published reports, as part of what appears to be a concerted effort by YouTube and parent Google, Inc. to take on television and compete with over-the-air and cable/satellite-TV.

The report says the amount of money being committed — $10 to 15 million — is relatively small by Hollywood standards. But it could represent shifting alliances in the television industry. While NBC is owned by Comcast, the nation’s largest cable-TV provider, and CBS is owned by Viacom, another cable provider, ABC/Disney currently has no such cable-TV alliance, and is thus widely seen as better able to navigate the waters of new signal distribution technologies.
